Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) today issued the following statement applauding the introduction by House Democrats of a package of bills that would prevent drilling in the oceans around the United States:

“Time and time again, from Santa Barbara to Deepwater Horizon, we have seen the potential widespread devastation from offshore oil drilling. We must make it clear, once and for all, that our coastlines will not pay the price of oil production greed and hubris. These bills will be a major step toward ensuring the coastlines remain unspoiled for generations to come.”

Congressman Lowenthal is an original cosponsor of the California Clean Coast Act, Stop Arctic Ocean Drilling Act, the West Coast Ocean Protection Act, and the Clean Ocean and Safe Tourism (COAST) Anti-Drilling Act. Further, he is the incoming Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources under the House Natural Resources Committee which will have oversight over energy production activities in federal waters and on federal lands.
