Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) issued the following statement on the decision by the United States Supreme Court to consider rulings from two lower courts that found congressional maps in North Carolina and Maryland were so partisan that they violated the rights of voters:

"I am very excited to see that the Supreme Court will be taking up the cases of Rucho v. Common Cause (North Carolina gerrymandering) and Lamone v. Benisek (Maryland gerrymandering). Last Congress I led the bipartisan Member of Congress amicus brief for Gill v. Whitford and will once again join with my colleagues to ensure that the Supreme Court Justices know why partisan gerrymandering is unconstitutional and why it must end now."
