Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) today met with United States Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius to receive an update on events in Vietnam.

The meeting was a far-ranging discussion of topics including the massive toxic spill in Vietnam by Formosa Steel, the continuing struggle for human rights, and the ongoing rehabilitation of the Bien Hoa Cemetery. The Congressman and Ambassador also raised concerns about prisoners of conscience in Vietnam like Nguyen Van Dai, Pastor Nguyen Cong Chinh, and Thich Quang Do.

“We are fortunate to have such an outstanding advocate not only for U.S.-Vietnam relations in Ambassador Osius, but also an amazing advocate for the concerns of the Vietnamese American communities throughout our nation who still feel a great connection to Vietnam,” Congressman Lowenthal said.
