Press Release

Garden Grove, CA -- Congressman Alan Lowenthal on Thursday hosted with California State Senator Lou Correa a free community health and health care enrollment fair in Garden Grove.

Free flu shots, mammograms, preventive health screenings, and health insurance and health care services were provided by professionals and experts from Covered California, Catholic Charities of Orange County, Orange County Asian Pacific Islander Community Alliance, Orange County Health Care Agency, CalOptima, U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission, U.S Department of Labor, Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, Planned Parenthood, Davita, Alzheimer's Association, Nhan Hoa Health Care Clinic, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, YMCA,  American Diabetes Association, Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches and American Red Cross.

"There have been quite a few questions from my constituents about health care, health insurance, and what is now available to them under the law," Congressman Lowenthal said. "This event was organized to provide constituents access to free health services and to educate themselves about the Affordable Care Act.

"As I expected, Southern Californians still need to be informed about what the new law means for them. That is why I hosted this fair.

"Representatives from Covered California, as well as local health care professionals from our district, were gracious enough to lend us a helping hand today and make this a very informative event for all who attended."

The health fair was part of a series of health-related community events hosted by the Congressman since taking office in January. In August, the Congressman hosted an Affordable Care Act Roundtable for members of the small business community, and in September he hosted an Affordable Care Act Town Hall at Cal State Long Beach. All of these events have provided a forum for the community and various stakeholders to ask questions and learn more about the new health care law.

California State Senator Lou Correa, a cohost of the event, represents the 34th Senate District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Westminster and the community of Rossmoor.

Congressman Alan Lowenthal represents the cities of Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill, Avalon, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Cypress, Westminster, Garden Grove, Buena Park, and Stanton in California's 47th Congressional District. He can be followed on Facebook, Twitter, or his website.
