Congressman Lowenthal Votes To Pass Major Transportation Bill
December 4, 2015
Press Release
Congressman Alan Lowenthal today issued the following statement on the passage of the conference report on the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act:
"Today I voted in favor of adopting the conference report on the FAST Act, a bipartisan bill to increase investment in our nation's infrastructure over the next five years. I was especially pleased to see the inclusion of both formula grant and competitive grant programs for freight projects in the bill.
"I have advocated for freight and goods movement to be a part of our national transportation policy since coming to Congress, and my bill Economy in Motion: The National Multimodal and Sustainable Freight Infrastructure Act would likewise create formula grant and competitive grant programs for freight projects. While the bill voted on today is not perfect, I believe it takes a step in the right direction by making freight an integral part of our transportation policy and setting aside funding for freight specifically. Efficient and reliable goods movement is the backbone of the Southern California economy and sustainable funding for our freight system is critical to our region."
