Congressman Lowenthal Statement On SCOTUS Decision Regarding DACA

Press Release

Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling today which blocked the Trump Administration's attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“Today's decision by the Supreme Court to block the president's attempt to end DACA is a major victory, albeit a temporary and narrowly-based one. We need a permanent solution that will once and for all remove the cloud of uncertainty for DREAMers. We need the Senate to pass the Dream and Promise Act, which I voted for and the House passed last year. The vast majority of Americans realize the plain fact that ending DACA is simply un-American. Exiling 800,000 young adults and children from the only country that many of them have ever known is abhorrent. These DREAMers have nothing to return to in countries they don’t know. Their life is here and for the most part always has been. They are our neighbors, classmates, and co-workers. They are Americans in all aspects but their birth certificates. We can proudly celebrate this victory over an unjust action by this administration, but it remains for Congress to permanently do what is right by the DREAMers, just as the majority of Americans want us to.”
