Congressman Lowenthal Statement on House Sit-in Calling For Vote On Gun Violence Prevention Legislation

Press Release

Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) today issued the following statement on the House of Representatives sit-in led by civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (GA-05):

"Time after time after time, the American people have demanded that Congress act in the aftermath of horrible tragedies like Aurora, Newtown, Charleston, San Bernardino, Orlando, and many, many more.

"Time after time, the House leadership has refused to even bring up a bill.

"This cannot continue. This is a moment of truth. Congress cannot hold another moment of silence for victims of gun violence – and we cannot go back to our districts – without taking action to prevent the next tragedy.

"This is not about demanding a result. This is about demanding a vote.

"By sitting down, we are standing up for commonsense gun violence prevention legislation that is overwhelmingly supported by the American people."
