Congressman Lowenthal Statement On House Passage Of His Two-State Solution Resolution, H.Res.326

December 6, 2019
Press Release

Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) today issued the following statement following the passage in the House of his resolution, H.Res.326, which reaffirms the longstanding support of the House for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict:

"For more than two decades the United States has been steadfast in our belief that a two-state solution is the only real path toward peace in the Middle East. It is the only way to safeguard Israel as a secure, Jewish, and democratic state, while also upholding the rights and legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.

"Our passage today of H.Res.326 reaffirms this position—a non-partisan and non-controversial position that has guided our foreign policy under Democratic and Republican administrations alike.

"Today, we spoke out against policies which could put peace out of reach: unilateral annexation, unilateral pushes for statehood, violence, or settlement expansion. When peace appears most remote, the voice of Congress is even more critical, not less. We cannot let the possibility of a just peace slip away, and we cannot accept any action that undermines a two-state solution.

"We will never compromise on Israel’s security, and we will not turn our backs on the Palestinian people’s desire for dignity and justice.

"I was proud to introduce this resolution, help bring it the floor, and join my colleagues in voting to pass it."
