Congressman Lowenthal Opposes Ryan Budget; Supports Balanced Alternatives That Put Americans Back To Work
Congressman Alan Lowenthal released the following statement on his vote against the Republican-supported House budget and his support of Democratic alternatives:
“My constituents have let me know, over and over again, that what they care about is getting Americans back to work, boosting growth and growing paychecks. The GOP budget offers nothing but the same Romney-Ryan policies rejected by voters in my district in November.
No one can afford Congressman Paul Ryan's budget. The nation cannot afford it, the state of California cannot afford it, and my constituents most definitely cannot afford it. It is harsh, it is austere, it is cynical and to be honest, it is cruel.
It targets the poor, the aged, the young -- the most vulnerable among us. All while benefiting oil companies, corporations, special interests, and the wealthiest Americans.
This is why I voted against it.
In contrast, I supported the Democratic alternatives that were solutions-based budgets focused on the priorities my constituents have told me they care about: creating jobs, growing the economy, strengthening the middle class, and responsibly reducing the deficit.”
