Congressman Lowenthal Invites New US Ambassador To Vietnam Ted Osius To Little Saigon

November 25, 2014
Press Release
Congressman Alan Lowenthal on Tuesday sent a letter of congratulations to the newly confirmed United States Ambassador to Vietnam, Ted Osius.

The letter, also signed by Representatives Dana Rohrabacher, Ed Royce, and Loretta Sanchez, congratulates Ambassador Osius on his confirmation and thanks the Ambassador for his stated commitment to upholding human rights in his new role.

Congressman Lowenthal and the other signatories to the letter each represent portions of the Vietnamese community centered around Little Saigon in Orange County, California. This community has the largest population of Vietnamese Americans.

In the letter, Congressman Lowenthal invites Ambassador Osius to visit and meet with members of the Vietnamese community in Orange County at his earliest availability.

"We believe that the Vietnamese American community in our districts has a unique and valuable perspective on United States policy in Vietnam," Congressman Lowenthal said.

Last year, Ambassador Osius' immediate predecessor, Ambassador David Shear, visited Little Saigon and met with community members in a town hall to hear community concerns.  Ambassador Shear was well received, and his updates from Vietnam were greatly appreciated by the Vietnamese community.
