February 9, 2021
Press Release

Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA_47), today, issued the following statement on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's subcommittee on the Coast Guard and Maritime Trasnportation hearing entitled 'State of the U.S. Maritime Industry: Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic.'

"The port complex of Long Beach and Los Angeles are one of the economic engines of our region, state, and nation. During the pandemic, these ports and the workers who continue to work there, have provided a lifeline to Americans across the nation. Make no mistake, they are on the frontlines. It was my pleasure to welcome my good friend Mario Cordero, the Executive Director of the Port of Long Beach and Chairman of the American Association of Port Authorities, to testify today before a House subcommittee looking at the impacts of the pandemic on our maritime industry and what the federal government can do to assist to keep our ports open and working efficiently."
