Congressman Lowenthal Congratulates District Green Schools

Congratulations are in order for two Long Beach schools who have been named as leaders in environmental awareness. This week Lowell and Twain elementary schools were officially recognized by the United States Department of Education as two of only 48 schools nationwide to have earned the title of Green Ribbon Schools.
In bestowing the titles upon the two schools, the Department of Education noted that both schools have developed and implemented comprehensive programs focused on reducing their facilities' environmental impact, creating healthy learning environments and fostering wellness practices and providing effective environmental education that prepares students to succeed in the 21st century, including science, technology, mathematics, engineering, and civics.
After the awards ceremony, I was so pleased to meet with (from left to right in photo) Twain Principal Ellen Ryan and Lowell parent volunteers Karen Taylor and Holland Brown. Read more about them and their awards in this feature by Kitty Felde at KPCC online: http://bit.ly/1x79KGo
